In Autumn 2020, we supported the planting of the very first Children’s Forest in Lanercost, Northern Cumbria.
32 children from Lanercost Primary School worked with two Children’s Forest nature connection guardians, a tree planting adviser, and landowner Lucinda Guinness. Together, they planted more than 120 native trees, including oak, hawthorn and goat willow.
In their closing circle, children shared their ‘golden moments’. These included:
“nature… togetherness… peace… painting… fire…. epic… best day ever… brilliant… love“
“Children’s Forest allows children to find out more about the natural world they live in and to understand the intricate balance between themselves and nature in a purposeful and enjoyable way…
Children need hope for the future… Tending, caring and watching the trees grow is magical and meaningful.
Thank you for a wonderful three days. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all again and to a long and meaningful relationship with the forest as it progresses.”

“I really love this land. As a landowner, I’m lucky enough to have an opportunity here… to care, to help restore balance, to give something back and to give to the future.
Finding the Children’s Forest means so much to me. The breadth of their vision matched the future I would like to see. It’s very exciting and fills me with hope”
