About the event

A day to celebrate the Summer Solstice with all the family. There will be solstice inspired games, songs, crafts and nature connection for adults and accompanied children. We will visit a beautiful summer meadow and celebrating our relationship with nature as a community.

We create a connective learning experience to share nature connection practices together, learn practical knowledge and ancestral skills as we explore connective ways to engage children with nature.

We will share songs, stories and games inspired by the beauty and bounty of summer, deepening our connection to the natural world and to our true selves.

Who is this event suitable for?

  • This day is for people of all ages. We welcome adults and accompanies children and will support those working with children in outdoor education such as Forest School facilitators.

The event will cover

  • Create an opportunity to nurture a deeper connection to the natural world at this time, attuning to the seasonal cycles and and to the expansive energies of summer.
  • Enjoy summer songs, games, foraged foods and crafts for all the family.
  • Connect with each other as a community, and to our true selves as we tend to our individual well-being and that of the wider world.

About the tutors

Anna Richardson: Anna has been a nature mentor and trained forest school leader for over 20 years, working with children of all ages and mentoring adults in plant lore, foraging, nature connection and bushcraft. The 8 Shields deeply informs Anna’s work and approach.  She is passionate about connecting to nature through creativity and reverence for life and is also a forest school trainer through Circle of Life Rediscovery and has co-authored two books : Learning with Nature and The Children’s Forest and am the founder of the Children’s Forest.

Lucinda Warner: Lucinda is a medicinal Herbalist, naturopath and nature lover. She loves to spend time on the Downs with the plants that grow there and can often be found in her kitchen blending, brewing, bottling and batching any number of strange and wonderful potions and elixirs. Lucinda loves sharing her experience of the many gifts that the natural world has to offer and empowering others to know and use some of the common plants that grow freely around us. Upcoming courses

'Greet the Trees' Summer term (for community)

£10 drop-in per family, or Adults £35 for 4 week block (children free)

Join us for these weekly sessions on Monday afternoons to greet some of the trees we met in the autumn in their Spring and Summer finery. With games, songs, stories, crafts and food we will experience the gifts of the trees and tend the tiny seedlings growing from seeds gathered and sown in the autumn.

Three day Facilitator Training Course ~ Sussex

Standard fee: £500, Supporters fee: £650 (contact us for Concessionary fee). Paying the supporters fee enables us to offer concessionary fees. (payment plans are possible)

The Children’s Forest Facilitator course is an immersive 3-day camp that aims to provide participants with a deep nature immersion experience in a beautiful Sussex woodland while experiencing the four step journey of the Children’s Forest. Our aim is to create a heart centred learning experience that will inspire you to create your own tree planting projects through nature connection practice, practical knowledge and indigenous wisdom.

Geoff Robb ~ Music of Trees Concert

£15 per adult (£12 concessions / £20 supporters)

Join Geoff Robb, winner of the Brighton Fringe Live Music Award, for an evening of magical storytelling and virtuoso guitar. If you love trees and enjoy beautiful acoustic guitar music then this family friendly show is for you! This is a fundraising event for Children's Forest.
